Chief officer of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Goa, Agnelo Fernandes said that the enforcement of traffic rules in the municipal jurisdiction will be done strictly from November 20 in order to bring discipline among the motorists.
Fernandes was speaking after a ruckus was witnessed as some Councillors were challaned by lady police sub-inspectors for parking their two-wheeler on the footpath in front of the municipal building on Tuesday.
The Vasco traffic cell has started a drive against unauthorized parking of vehicles. The lady police sub-inspectors (LPSIs), who are on probation, have been given duties in the town. The LPSIs are issuing challan to the people for violating traffic rules.
The chief officer told that around 6 municipal workers will be assisting the traffic cell during the drive to be conducted for enforcing the traffic rules.
Meanwhile, the Councillors, who were challaned , strongly condemned the act of LPSIs of issuing the challan .
MMC chairperson Deepak Naik informed that the council had adopted a resolution some 3 months ago to make the area in front of the municipal building a parking zone for two and four-wheeler, exclusively of Councillors and officials of various government departments. The official notification with respect to the resolution has not yet been issued by the Collector.
